Community Town Hall

Envisioning Erie’s 21st Century Bayfront:

Community Town Hall – Blasco Memorial Library – 6 PM, August 9th

An Update on the Ongoing Legal Fight Against

the Bayfront Parkway Central Corridor Project

Erie, PA. July 29 The public is invited to attend a Community Town Hall Tuesday, August 9th, 6-7:30 PM, Hirt Auditorium, Blasco Memorial Library, 160 East Front Street, Erie, PA 16507.

As a follow up to the Bayfront Town Hall held two years ago on August 25, 2020, this Town Hall will clarify why PennDOT’s $100 million arterial highway plan (titled the Bayfront Improvement Project) will fail to catalyze Erie’s economy, protect the environment, or improve residents’ quality of life.  Speakers will demonstrate that by reallocating the targeted funds to create a Bayfront Boulevard instead of the proposed highway we can protect the environment (water, air, sound level), enhance public health and foster a thriving, sustainable urban waterfront better connected to the city that will benefit all residents and stakeholders, including developers.

Speakers include Earthjustice Attorney Courtney Bowie, Ben Crowther of America Walks, Tony Dutzik of Frontier Group, Jenny Tompkins of PennFuture, the Erie NAACP President Gary Horton and several members of Connect Urban Erie: Janice Cole, Roland Slade, and Adam Trott. The topics are: 1) the need for Bayfront improvements and the consequences of prioritizing vehicular traffic; 2) an update on the NEPA litigation regarding the current Bayfront plan; 3) a report on the national movement to prioritize non-vehicular traffic; 4) the benefits of a Bayfront Boulevard and the pedestrian challenges of PennDOT’s plan; and 5) the path to full public engagement.  A question-and-answer session will conclude the event.

Those unable to attend in person are invited use the link or QR code to register for our live-stream webinar.
